Ross
Wilson has over a decade of experience in the Bay Area radio industry,
first as on-air engineer, then as creative / production director at
one of SF's heritage FM stations, where he honed his skills as voice
talent, copywriter and producer.
A man of many talents, he also enjoys pre-eminent status in the Bay
Area as one of a mere handful of professional trumpet / trombonists
in the country. Ross keeps his chops in shape with 4 hours of daily
practice, as well as 3-4 nights a week performing with
funk, R&B
and salsa bands. His examples of mixmanship include work for many
legendary performers, from Sammy Hagar to Tito Puente, from Con Funk
Shun to The Whispers.
Ross's amazing flexibility as a musician - balancing symphonic,
jazz, salsa, and pop genres - gives him an innate sense of timing
in sound design. In fact, he approaches building a soundtrack the
same way he mixes a piece of music - taking minute sound elements
and blending them seamlessly. His many years in radio on both sides
of the microphone gives him a unique understanding of dialogue and
copy editing, as well as delivery and spot production. Tom says he's
one of the "best damn music editors" you'll ever hear
- and watch out for his wicked sense of humor.
